Case Study: Next New Networks
Key Features Utilized
- Templating »
- In addition to using Flash advertisements, Next New Networks uses Castfire's templating engine to deliver promos, bumpers, and advertising through their downloadable podcasts.
- Multiple formats »
- Next New Networks is able to deliver HD quality 720p video, standard web-fidelity video, as well as bandwidth-friendly formats for mobile devices, all with one file uploaded to Castfire.
- Media Distribution
- Next New Networks has many different partners, all with different business rules. Using Castfire, they encode one video, and Castfire manages all the business rules for them. That means promos go to some partners, ads go to others, and some get pure content. One file, no fuss.
- Integration »
- By using Castfire's best-in-breed API, Next New Networks is able to use their own CMS with Castfire's content easily.
"Our producers simply upload the content while Castfire automatically provides each of our partners with the correct version of that asset." - Marc Goldberg, CTO Next New Networks
Next New Networks (NNN) needed a solution to publish cross promotional segments for their multiple networks and advertising to multiple devices and in multiple formats: a complex task, to be sure, made easy by the extensive publisher tools, advertising tools and easy integration tools.
Castfire enables templates for each show within the network including "rotating" segments for branding (introductions and closing credits), rotating segments for cross promotion and place holders for advertisements (1-3 segments). Prior to inserting advertising, there are up to 15 possible versions for each episode. Castfire automates the entire process and makes different versions instantly available for download by the audience. These versions are available in multiple formats for playback on the web as well as on disconnected devices.
NNN does not deliver xml playlists to web based flash players. Instead, it delivers a single file that can be consumed by any player or device. This ensures easy integration as well as perfect results from the scrubber bar on players.
NNN syndicates its content to a number of aggregation sites such as AOL, Comcast and Bebo. NNN uploads content once, and Castfire automatically constructs multiple versions of the show that account for the individual business rules of each distribution deal. For example, AOL does not allow advertising but does permit cross promotional segments, while Bebo permits advertising. The Castfire syndication management system dynamically builds shows in the format, size and make up called for by each partner. Also, Castfire's flexibility enables multiple ad servers to be utilized simultaneously.
About Next New Networks (NNN): Next New Networks is a new kind of media company, creating micro-television networks over the internet for targeted communities. The network brings together elements of tv programming and internet philosophy to allow viewers to contribute, share and distribute content. They are looking to be available everywhere, from phones to iPods and gaming devices, to whatever the next platform is. Each of their micro-networks consists of 3-11 minutes of content refreshed on a schedule, daily, weekly, or bi-weekly (depending on the network), and offers one or more regular shows.
